There is a lot of truth to the “Cheers” theme song: When it comes down to human nature, we are all looking for a place “where everyone knows your name.”

The Balanced Rock Eatery and Pub in Helper, Utah, can easily become a place you go to before you start an adventure or the place you go to gloat about the experiences and adventures you’ve already enjoyed. Continue reading

Tarahumara- Mexican among the Swiss in Midway

This article was first published on deseretnews.com on May 22, 2012 and can be viewed here.

So often we fall into the trap that Mexican food is what you get at any of the fast-food “Mexican” restaurants that dot the land. While this is what American Mexican has evolved into, it is a far cry from what might be considered truly authentic. It’s like comparing the fortune cookie to authentic Chinese food. Scones!

Leslie’s Family Tree Restaurant

BLT's from Arshel's Cafe

Arshel’s Cafe

Arshel’s Cafe in Beaver, Utah is great. Simple as that. Like many of the restaurants we go to, this is just a couple of minutes from I-15. As we mentioned when writing about Maria’s Cocina, we didn’t know this place (or any place in Beaver, for that matter) existed; and as with Maria’s, it is worth the couple of extra minutes to actually go into the town and eat at an actual restaurant, rather than going to one of the fast food joints found right by the exits. The carnitas, tacos, and a glass of the homemade horchata

Maria’s Cocina

For anyone that may have had the same idea that we had about  Beaver (that is that Beaver is just a small town that is only good for truck stops),you owe it to the town to drive through and see what Beaver is really all about, because in all reality Beaver is about as quaint as a small city can be. Beaver is a nice place to stop on your way south, but it’s also got more to it then that. Like many of the cities we go to and have gone to, we were directed to an awesome place to eat.
